May 21 will mark Brookhaven Town’s ninth year participating in a nationwide litter-cleanup effort that draws about 2.5 million volunteers from 15,000 communities across the U.S. each spring.

Registration to join the Great Brookhaven Clean Up is now open, town officials announced this week. More than 2,600 residents participated last year. The event is co-sponsored by Brookhaven Town’s department of waste management, and Keep America Beautiful, Inc.

The town will be providing free gloves, trash bags and T-shirts all available for pick up at the department of waste management’s third floor office at Town Hall during regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., from May 9 to May 20. Evening pickups are scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Brookhaven Town Hall is located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.
