For this initial, soft opening, Eatfit will be open from 11 a.m to 2 p.m., seven days a week. It is still waiting for the OK to cook hot foods.

Eatfit is also the first and only gym on Long Island to offer the healthy (and trending) Kombucha tea on tap from Aqua ViTea of Middlebury, Vt., café management says.

Finest Fitness has teamed up with The Amazing Olive in Patchogue to offer its oils and balsamic vinegars from the East Main Street shop.

(Gym members now also got 10% off at The Amazing Olive.)

Original Post: Finest Fitness Health & Sports Club in Patchogue Village is building a healthy foods café that will be open to the public — not just gym members.

The plans were recently approved by the village and will include outdoor seating behind the building at 208 East Main Street.

“We want this to be like a healthy gourmet deli, but nothing too intimidating,” said Tina Giovanelli of Sayville, who will be running the café. “It’s going to be real food and good food, but with a healthier kick.”

To that end, the EatFit Café will be offering chopped salads, sandwiches and wraps using grilled chicken, egg and tuna salad, as well as acai bowls, which have been growing in popularity.

“They’re like berry bowls, and a real great healthy alternative to ice cream,” she said.

The café will also have a juicing station with protein shakes available, and grab-and-go snacks like hummus and more.

Finest Fitness is waiting on health department approvals, with the goal to open in July.

Giovanelli — also a certified health coach and food handler — is also currently searching for a local commercial kitchen to rent in order to prepare some more involved meals for sale at the café.

There are also bigger plans for the future.

“I’m talking with a [Community Supported Agriculture] group and we’re looking to see if we can use products from local farms out east,” Giovanelli said. “Our ultimate goal, when we start getting this together, is to help provide healthier meals to maybe people who haven’t been exposed or can’t afford to eat healthy and organic.”

And, she said, the hope is get more people comfortable in a gym setting, both kids and adults.

“I think we really need to show the kids how important healthy eating and fitness really is,” she said.
