Through her recurring column “In Tune,” musician and writer Jacqueline Routh will be reporting on the hottest performers from across the South Shore and greater Long Island music scene.
When you combine family, raw talent, and an unwavering will to succeed, the results can be pretty impressive. The group “MJT, formerly “Michael Jazz Trio,” consists of three self-taught musicians from Central Islip who also happen to be brothers.
And they’re taking the Long Island music scene by storm.
In 2014, attorney Justin Bonus of Brooklyn took on the role of their manager when they were in the process of reinventing themselves, and they’ve since transitioned from jazz to rock.
The move is paying off with packed local houses and, now, an invite to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Tex., this coming March.
