The Patchogue Elks are preparing to run their annual free throw contest for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 at the Patchogue Family YMCA.

The Jan. 16 event is part of a national Elks contest.

Registration will start at the Patchogue Y, located at 255 West Main Street, at 10 a.m. that Monday.

The winners of the Elks Hoop Shoot Contest in Patchogue will then get the chance to advance to district, state, regional and national competitions.

The Hoop Shoot is free to all participants and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed, according to the contest website. The 2017 Hoop Shoot National Finals will take place April 22, 2017 in Chicago, Ill.
