Three performances set for February’s Winter Festival at The Gateway

This is a special announcement from Companion Star and The Gateway:


Performing Arts Company, Companion Star of Patchogue, in association with The Gateway Playhouse in Bellport will present Winter Festival at the Gateway 2017 next month.

Companion Star, a living laboratory for the creative process, presents 3 performances February 10-12, 2017 as Winter Festival at the Gateway.  

February 10, 2017 @7:30 PM. a performance of The Raven a new music theatre composition by Percussionist/Composer Donald Knaack www.junkmusic.online

The piece uses the poem The Raven by Edgar Alan Poe. The work will feature Bass/Narrator Michael Douglas Jones with Knaack performing percussion and accompanied by an electronic track. Also on the program is a literary presentation/discussion by Author/Poe Expert Amy Patricia Meade. www.amypatriciameade.com

The evening will close with a Junkjam™ where audience members choose a provided stick and re-used material and everyone jams-out.  Truly a one of a kind event.

Knaack is a classically trained percussionist and composer, who, some 25 years ago left his classical world to write and perform on re-used materials.  His music is called Junk Music™ and he is known as The Junkman™.  Knaack will perform several of his solo compositions on his large “drum set” with over 70 re-used materials made from wood, plastic, glass and metal. 

Saturday, February 11 @ 7:30 PM we present, Pages from the Diary of an Ex-slave, written and performed by Long Island artist Jo-Ann Wilson. www.inspired-jw.com

Pages is a story of one woman’s fight for dignity and equality. It is great story-telling fueled throughout by traditional Spirituals as well as original music written by Jo-Ann. She is supported by a cast of amazingly talented local artists.

Sunday, February 12 @ 4:00 PM we present A Winter Afternoon Concert performed by local artists in Companion Star’s education program featuring musical selections from Classical to Country hits.

Companion Star, a non-profit organization in Patchogue. Founder, Dr. Michael Douglas Jones has been creating and performing new works of Opera and Music Theater for 25 years around the globe. www.companionstar.org
