New boutique owner is taking full advantage of a backyard

The owner of the newly opened Celadon Home Boutique in Bellport Village found himself in a unique situation when he took over the shop formerly occupied by The Red Bench.

His new place had a backyard.

And a rather large backyard at that — not something that typically goes hand-in-hand with operating out of a storefront.

“Everyone who comes back here says, ‘You got a yard back here? You gotta use it,’” said Giovanni Naso, Celadon’s owner. “So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to use it.”

Naso spent much of June not only putting the finishing touches on the shop, which opened in May, but de-weeding and prepping the backyard for Celadon’s grand opening luau, held last month. The Hawaiian-themed party featured not only food and drinks, but a steel drum band from the Boys & Girls Club and a DJ spinning what Naso said was called electric lounge music, something he hadn’t heard of before the party but liked nonetheless.

Moving forward, Naso — a longtime interior decorator in Bellport who owns Giovanni Naso Interiors — and his design assistant, Sharon Munson, plan to hold a series of workshops in the yard. For about $25 or $30, attendees at these “make and take” classes could learn some tricks of the decorating trade, while working on their own piece of decor for their home.

“It’s nice to come out and make something pretty and expand your creativity,” said Munson. “Even if people don’t think it’s in them, it is.”

Naso said they’ve held such workshops in the past, where people made succulent wreaths or Christmas ornaments while enjoying some wine and cheese.

Munson is also planning to hold some “101” classes in the new store’s backyard to teach people about her passion: healing oils, which can be used in sprays, lotions and air purifiers.

“All kinds of stuff,” she said.
